Suppression of Resonant Field Line Oscillations by a Turbulent Background
نویسنده
چکیده
Stochastic fluctuations of the magnetospheric plasma and background magnetic field, especially intense during geomagnetically active periods, can provide an additional mechanism of damping of Alfvén field line oscillations. To quantify this hypothesis, we consider a driven Alfvén field line resonator with stochastic fluctuations of the Alfvén resonant frequency. This problem is first considered analytically for a low level of fluctuations, then a more general numerical approach is introduced. The results of analytical calculations and numerical modeling both indicate the deterioration of resonant properties of the resonator owing to stochastic background fluctuations.

Turbulent Drag Reduction by Spanwise Wall Oscillations
The objective of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of wall oscillation as a control scheme of drag reduction. Two flow configurations are considered: constant flow rate and constant mean pressure gradient. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using Fourier-Chebyshev spectral methods and the oscillation in sinusoidal form is enforced on the walls through boundary conditions for the sp...

In this paper, the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is enhanced with a Chaotic Particle Swarm Optimization (CPSO) Damping Controller in order to mitigate the Low Frequency Oscillations (LFO) in a Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) power system. The designed damping controller is an optimized lead-lag controller, which extracts the speed deviation of the generator rotor and generates the out...

There is no theoretical underpinning that successfully explains how turbulent mixing is fed by wave breaking associated with nonlinear wave-wave interactions in the background oceanic internal wavefield. We address this conundrum using one-dimensional ray tracing simulations to investigate interactions between high frequency internal waves and inertial oscillations in the extreme scale separate...
متن کاملNon-Resonant Background Suppression in Preresonance CARS Spectra of Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide : Demonstration of a Background Suppression Technique using Phase Mismatching and Comparison with the Polarization-Sensitive CARS Technique
Polarization-sensitive CARS spectra of a 5.7 x lo-’ mol dm-’ flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) solution were recorded under preresonance conditions at a pump wavelength of 532 nm. The depolarization ratios of the vibrations are shown to be close to the depolarization ratio of the non-resonant background. This results in a severe reduction of the vibration resonant signal (a factor of 700-900) i...
متن کاملTurbulent Flow in 2-D Domains with Complex Geometry-Finite Elelment Method
Using the highly recommended numerical techniques, a finite element computer code is developed to analyse the steady incompressible, laminar and turbulent flows in 2-D domains with complex geometry. The Petrov-Galerkin finite element formulation is adopted to avoid numerical oscillations. Turbulence is modeled using the two equation k-ω model. The discretized equations are written in the form o...
